Sustainability Policy

Purpose

This Environmental Sustainability Policy emphasises our commitment and obligation to supporting the principles of environmental sustainability and recognises that a sustainable environment is vital to our future. The aim of our Environmental Sustainability Policy is to:

  • implement environmental actions within the company.
  • monitor the environmental actions and improvements internally.
  • communicate environmental initiatives internally and externally.
  • Implement practices in line with ISO – ISO20121 recommendations on hosting sustainable events

Scope

This policy and associated procedures apply to all directors, staff and service providers working for, and with Somerset Event Management

 Policy

Somerset Event Management recognises that businesses and Events take a heavy toll on resources, society, and the environment, often generating significant waste. We are committed in finding ways we can reduce the impact of both our work as a company, and when onsite at conferences. Somerset Event Management commits to the following principles and practices:

  1. Monitoring and managing our environmental performance and working towards reducing adverse impacts.
  2. Complying with relevant Australian Commonwealth, State and Local environmental policies, practices, regulations and legislation, and industry-specific legislation.
  3. Reducing the consumption of natural resources in our daily operations, including water, paper, and energy.
  4. Maximising the recycling of resources.
  5. Disposing of waste appropriately, including e-waste at designated e-waste centres.
  6. Prioritise suppliers that uses Fair Trade, local, seasonal, Carbon Neutral and other sustainable catering options.
  7. Sourcing products locally for each event.
  8. Where possible, encourage our suppliers and other stakeholders to meet high standards of environmental performance.
  9. Communicating this policy to all employees and other stakeholders, as well as making this policy available on the Somerset Event Management website.
  10. Reviewing this policy annually and measuring targets and performance as part of that review.

Responsibility and Review

This Environmental Sustainability Policy is the responsibility of the Management of Somerset Event Management. This policy was updated in May 2023 and will be reviewed annually where we will continue to strive to improve environmental awareness and drive behaviour change.
